Christmas Meditation – Blogmas Day 24

I can not believe it’s already the last day of Blogmas! December has once again flown by and I had the best time… Thank you to everyone who made it until the end, you guys are champs! Also a big thank you to everyone who liked, commented or messaged me, I’m so glad you enjoyed the blogs.

For me, Christmas has always been a time to be thankful. I know that there is Thanksgiving, but firstly, you can’t practise gratitude too often and secondly, I find it easier to get into the right mindset at the height of the festive season. And since it’s such an emotional holiday, it’s also the perfect mix between being grateful for the past and new beginnings.

I try to meditate quite regularly, because it really helps me to centre myself. But my biggest challenge is not getting lost in my thoughts, because then the anxiety will kick in. So I’ve been looking into awareness recently. Awareness is the concept of being in the moment, not dwelling on the past or planning the future, but simply being aware of the situation right now, without judgement. That might sound simple, but it’s really not. It has definitely helped me notice and appreciate things more and I like to use it to make myself aware of positive things and make sure I don’t pass them by or take them for granted. I’m sure that’s not the right way to do it, but it works for me. And maybe it will for you, just try it out and do what feels right.

And if you want to practise gratitude or awareness more regularly, just take a couple of minutes every day and connect with yourself. Close your eyes, set aside any kind of technology or other distractions and take stock of what you’re feeling. The sensations around you – noises or scents, the events of the past day and how you feel about them, and write down one thing that you are grateful for. This can be something big like a holiday or something small, like the smile of a stranger on the street. But for me, this works absolute wonders and you don’t have to do some complicated guided meditation, just sit down on your bed and take a few minutes to breathe.

I also just noticed that apparently on the 13th December I was grateful for Game of Thrones… This just shows that I didn’t actually plan on putting that gratitude log on the internet, although it’s completely true, I am very thankful for GoT! 😉

Credit for that awesome cupcake birthday card in background goes to my crazily talented sister, love you to the moon and back! :*

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and here’s to new beginnings!

All my love, H.
