Footprints in the Sand – Blogmas Day 11

IMG_5333

Today is a depression day. I have been getting better, but there are still days, when I’m just paralized. And I just couldn’t write the post I was planning on, so instead I thought I’d show you the poem I like to read when life get’s tough. I got given this book when I was 15 and I’ve been rereading it ever since. I even read this at my grandma’s funeral. Now, it is a religious poem and I’m not the most religious person ever, but I find it comforting to think that there is some sort of higher being looking out for you. And even if you’re not religious at all, I think it’s just a nice poem.

Foot prints in the Sand by Mary Fishback Powers

One night I dreamed a dream.
That I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”

He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”

I hope you found this comforting. The poem doesn’t have to be about God, if you don’t want it to be. Your family or friends will also carry you in your hardest times, if you let them. I know how hard it is to ask for help, and if you don’t feel like you have anyone to talk to, there are internet services or hotlines you can call in your area. Or message me, I’m here for you!

Life gets tough sometimes and it’s only natural to need help!

Love, H.
