You guys, July has flown by, and it’s already been Helena Everyday’s one month anniversary. This website has been alive for an entire month already. YAY! I must say, I’m kinda proud it hasn’t died yet, it has now officially been alive longer than any plant I’ve ever had… Although that might say more about my gardening skills than anything else…
Anyway, I wanted to share with you guys what I’ve been loving this past month. It’s quite a random mixture and most of these things aren’t really new, but I’ve been using them A LOT this past month.
Sea Salt & Lavender Candle
First of all, since I’ve been trying to take care of myself a little better, I’ve been trying to establish some new habits and routines. (If you want me to do a post about these new habits and if they actually change anything, let me know in the comments.)
One of the things I challenged myself to do is simply to light a candle more often. I feel like it completely changes the atmosphere of a room when you’ve lit a candle. Even sitting on the sofa becomes so much more cozy when there’s a candle flickering on the coffee table.
Plus I’ve recently gotten into scented candles. I used to think they were way too sweet and those always give me headache. But then I discovered that there are also flavours like clean linen or green tea. And I got absolutley obsessed with them.
At the beginning of this month I got a Sea Salt & Lavender candle from Primark, which is their scent No. 4. I got the really big one in the milky mason jar, which is just so pretty! So i’ve been using that religiously and even took it with me when I spent a few nights away from home. The scent isn’t overpowering and it makes a really soft light through that thick glass.
Look at that, isn’t that just beautiful? (Excuse the crappy quality, I didn’t have my camera with me…)
Eat Smart by Niomi Smart
Now I am a self-proclaimed foodie and I like recipe books almost as much as cooking. I actually started asking for cookery books for my birthday when I was about 12, so by now, I have quite the collection. My favourite books are the ones with beautiful pictures. They just make me want to spend the whole day in the kitchen…
Now I rarely use a recipe when cooking, but I love getting inspired by other people’s ideas. Especially when those ideas are for healthy foods that are still delicious and don’t rip a hole in your wallet.
So when I found Niomi Smart’s book Eat Smart: What to Eat in a Day – Every Day through the recommendation of a friend, it was love at first sight. The book is beautifully designed and the recipes are actually suitable for everyday use. They only take a reasonable amount of time and supplies and only rarely use incredibly expensive ingredients. I especially loved the grain salads and the granola. I have since made a new batch of granola every week and my go-to snack at the moment ist some greek yoghurt with granola and some berries (Who would have guessed?) or cucumber and mint if I want something savoury.
So if you like going through pretty pictures of food as much as I do, this book is definitely for you! And if you already know the book, tell me what your favourites are, since I simply can’t decide which recipe to try next…
Embrace by Vera Wang
This is the Green Tea and Pear Blossom version of Vera Wang’s Embrace scents. Excuse the grubby look of the bottle, I’ve been carrying that around in my make-up bag a lot and didn’t take a picture before I used it. But that just shows how much I’ve actually been using this…
Now I rarely wear perfume, simply because I always forget to put it on. But this one comes in such a pretty little bottle, that it fits underneath my makeup mirror. So for the past few weeks I have been spritzing myself with this (admittedly not very cheap) scent. But for me, it’s worth it. You really don’t need to use a lot of the product and it smells pretty fresh, but at the same time comforting. I usually like a very citrus-y scent and have been using the CK One Summer one for years. But I thought I’d switch it up and I’m actually really happy with this one…
If you know me, you’ll know that I love socks. I know it sounds random and it is. But I really enjoy colourful and patterned socks. And since I have about 700 of those ankle socks, I usually can’t be bothered to match them when they come out of the wash. Also, can someone please tell me how socks still disappear when you’re living alone? There has to be a monster eating my socks in the washer, I swear!
So, socks. I normally don’t mind if people see my mismatched socks, I even like it, but there are some occasions where matching pink and checkered socks just isn’t appropriate. And especially in the summer with shorter trousers and dresses, sometimes you just don’t want your socks to show.
Since I’m not the biggest fan of feet, going barefoot in sneakers isn’t really my cup of tea… So when I found these sneaker socks (like these), I immediately bought like five pairs. I don’t know how I missed these things existing for so long, but they are SO useful! Now on the off chance you get as excited about socks as I do, this might be interesting for you and to everyone else, I want to apologize. I’m not sure how this favourites post turned into an essay about socks… But anyway, these are great! (Although they do look very weird when you try to take a picture.)
My Embroidered Denim Jacket
You would literally not believe how happy I was, when flower prints and embroideries came into style last year! I stocked up on shirts, skirts and dresses to last me until I’m actually 83 and know where alle the amazing grandmas get their fix.
But in all seriousness, I LOVE this jacket. It’s an H&M one that was meant to be pretty short and tight so I got it about five sizes too big and now it’s kinda short and baggy and I love it… I’m pretty sure they don’t sell it anymore, but the weather just recently got nice enough to wear it regularly and I’ve been pretty much living in it.
The ecoTOOLS Concealer Brush
Another really random item, but I love make-up brushes of any kind. And I also love supporting make-up brands that consider the environment. Be it being cruelty free, using organic ingredients or fair trading their products. So when I heard of ecoTOOLS, I knew their brushes were something I wanted to support, but this one also convinvced me on the actual use.
Thank You Jumper
Now for the grand finale: I have been LIVING in this jumper for the last month. My friend actually told me I wore that jumper the last three times I saw him… oops! But seriously, I’m absolutely in love with this thing. It’s super baggy and soft and comfy and perfect for summer evenings when it gets a little chilly, but you still want to finish that glass of wine outside.
The jumper is from Urban Outfitters and it was a little pricier than I usually buy and I thought quite a lot about it before I actually got it. Now I know that 60 bucks probably isn’t a lot for most people, but as a student it’s quite the purchase. But I don’t regret it, I’ve already gotten so much wear out of this jumper… So yeah. If I had to pick one favourite, it would be this!
So that’s it. I’m not sure if anyone even wants to read this, but I always like reading other people’s favourites, mainly ’cause I’m nosy but also because I like finding new nice things or habits people have. So I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know if you want another monthly favourites post.
